“Fishing
in the pond” is a memory game where a deck of cards are laid out face down
on a table.
A player gets to keep a pair of cards if he can locate two cards
that match.
This is done on an iterative basis by turning over a single card at
a time and identifying and remembering where its match is located.
The game
ends when all matches have been found or when no more matches can be made.
One
variation of ‘fishing in the pond’ game available electronically at http://pbskids.org/caillou/games/memory/index.html
An electronic version of this game was
created to assist in the creation of listening excerises for children to complete.
On selecting a
card a piece of music was played, the aim of the game was for the player to
select the corresponding card which played the same piece of music.
This game
could easily be configured to assist young children in learning how to
recognise numbers or even in counting.
The cards could be arranged so that in
order for a player to keep a pair a cards they have to, for example, remember the location of the card which is
double the value of the first.
